Best class to start in Mistfall Hunter

There's no single best class — it depends how you play. Here's our pick for each style, read from the official patch notes. Reported Steam news / DevNotes ↗

If you're new

Mercenary

Forgiving melee with high defence, and since October 15 Sword and Shield can keep blocking on low Energy — the simplest pick to learn the extraction loop on.

If you play solo

Shadowstrix

Its loot-and-leave mobility is a style the developer says it will keep (DevNote #8), even after the cuts to its fighting power.

If you run a squad

Seer

A good Seer makes a trio far harder to kill — support is what it is built for, and patches have barely changed it.

If you play aggressive

Mercenary

DevNote #8 called the Sword build's burst and chase exceptionally strong; trimmed since, but still built to press a fight.

All six classes at a glance

Mercenary

Melee bruiser

A heavy melee front-liner built around greatswords and battleaxes, with high attack and defense. Two weapon stances like every class.

Sorcerer

Ranged elemental mage

A ranged caster slinging fire, ice and lightning with crowd-control such as freezes and stuns.

Blackarrow

Ranged archer

A physical-damage archer leaning on stealth and piercing or tracking arrows for ranged pressure.

Shadowstrix

Stealth assassin

A burst assassin with daggers and dual blades, poisons and curses, built to open from stealth.

Seer

Support / healer

The dedicated support: heals, curse dispels, and runic totems to keep a squad alive.

Withered Knight

Crowd-control / tempo specialist

The newest class, debuted in the June open beta. Marks enemies with Withering Sigils and uses a Reckoning mechanic to detonate those sigils for layered damage.
